And that’s thanks to four mountain ranges.
The Lefka Ori or Cretan Alps are limestone mountains with typical gorges, more than 200 of them, and the famous Samaria, Europe’s longest gorge, is also located here.
The Psiloritis or Ida Mountains are the highest, the highest peak of the island, Psiloriris, with a height of 2.456 m, is located here and is dedicated to the goddess Rhea, the mother of the gods, as well as the goddess of motherhood, fertility, childbirth, comfort and the good life. In the mystical mountain Psiloritis also grew up the god of all gods, Zeus.
